I am trying to take the strap from a new pack to replace a broken one, but both the top and bottom of the track has extra material sewn in that blocks the strap from being removed. Ugh I hate these sternum straps. I was afraid of cracking or breaking the replacement part I just got if I put any more pressure on the clamp. There's a few videos on YouTube, but they don't seem like the best method, though I'm frequently wrong. I just finished replacing the sternum straps on my wife's Osprey Aura 65 AG backpack -- in 12 minutes! It uses "C" clips that fit over "piping" that runs down the side of the shoulder straps. Finally ended up cutting the bottom of the track, sliding on the c-clip (aka etroclip) and then sewing back up the track. The clip is very tight on there and there’s no wiggle room to get past the sewing. . I read some people put lubricant on the line, others said they used pliers to squeeze and flatten the line.
